Comparing Neurotoxins: Botox and Dysport

What are neurotoxins?

Botox and Dysport are both neurotoxins/neuromodulators with the same active ingredient, Botulinum Toxin Type A. These injectables work by temporarily blocking the nerve receptors in the muscle!

Why should you start neurotoxins?

Wrinkles are inevitable, but we can always prevent them from worsening as you age! This is where neurotoxins come in, these options really help your fine lines and wrinkles.

What's the difference between Botox and Dysport?

They are both ultimately the same product, but their conversion ratio varies with 1 unit of Botox is 2.5 units of Dysport.

Botox

  • Provides more of a “frozen” look

  • Results are visible between 7-10 days, with full results in 2 weeks

  • Lasts between 3-6 months

Dysport

  • Provides more a more natural-looking effect

  • Results are visible between 2-3 days after treatment

  • Lasts up to 5 months

Where can Botox/Dysport be injected?

Botox and Dysport are most often injected into the face. The most popular area of use would be the upper face which includes preventing and/or treating forehead lines, frown lines, eyebrows, top of the nose/bunny lines, and crow's feet. This procedure results in smoothing of the overlying skin on the face.

Other areas where neurotoxins can be injected include lipstick lines, chin dimpling, jawline/neck, and masseters for facial slimming. Botox/Dysport can be also injected into other areas of the body to treat over-sweating of armpits or back.
