Sculpted Liposuction: What you should know

What is sculpted lipo?

Sculpted liposuction (tumescent lipo) is our form of liposuction technique that permanently removes pockets of unwanted fat. This surgical contouring treatment suctions out the excess fat via a thin tube called a cannula, attached to a vacuum.

An experienced cosmetic surgeon can selectively remove unwanted fat to contour the face or body. This fat removal procedure can be performed on the abdomen, flanks, hips, thighs, chin, upper arms, and underarms.

How does sculpted liposuction work?

Sculpted lipo uses tumescent (a type of anesthetic solution) that contains a combination of lidocaine (to prevent pain), and epinephrine (to minimize blood loss and bruising) in a saline solution.

What happens during a sculpted lipo procedure?

Here’s how it works:

  1. First, the patient is given either local anesthesia or intravenous sedation for the procedure.

  2. The cosmetic surgeon will make small incisions (one-quarter inch or less) in the targeted area and inject a quantity of tumescent into the tissue.

  3. A cannula is inserted through the same incision and passes back and forth under the skin to break up the fat before suctioning it out.

Sculpted liposuction at Dermanoor uses a popular body-sculpting technology, power-assisted liposuction (PAL) — this device is an oscillating cannula that drives back and forth to break up unwanted fat cells to suction them out of the body. PAL is more efficient than manual jabs of the cannula in traditional liposuction.

What are the benefits of sculpted liposuction?

Sculpted liposuction is an alternative to more extreme surgeries that require general anesthesia. This technique is revolutionary because it allowed liposuction to be performed safely in an outpatient environment.

Using tumescent infusion instead of general anesthesia may also decrease the risk of side effects including nausea, muscle aches, hypothermia, sore throat, headaches, delirium, and more.

Why choose sculpted lipo?

  • Dramatic results after just 1 procedure

  • Fat-removal results are permanent

  • Fewer side effects than traditional lipo

  • Scars are usually small

Given its significant advantages over traditional liposuction, the tumescent technique is the standard method of fat extraction.

How long is liposuction recovery?

Sculpted lipo recovery takes anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the extent of the procedure. Most patients return to work within a few days and get back to normal activities within 2 weeks.

Bruising, swelling, and soreness are expected for at least a few weeks.

The surgeon requires patients to wear a compression garment for at least 1 to 3 months after surgery to control swelling.

When will you see liposuction results?

Patients notice an improved body contour immediately, but the initial results will be camouflaged by swelling. This should improve dramatically within a few weeks and continue to go down over the next 6 months.

Are sculpted liposuction results permanent?

Yes! Lipo permanently removes fat cells. Once the fat cells are gone, they are gone for good! Results will last as long as you maintain a stable weight.

To keep your new contoured shape after surgery, follow a diet that includes a lot of lean protein, fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy. And exercise regularly.
